I remember that BS about us getting gifts throughout the year. That's what I was told but it never happened. My sister and I never received presents. Our basic needs were provided for: food, clothing. But we did not get presents except from our non-JW grandparents. I was in a constant state of envy of neighborhood kids and cousins who were non-JWs.

Did your parents make you tell people (at xmas time) that you got gifts throughout the year
by myusername ini see people saying this online.
my parents made us tell people tha we got gifts throughout the year and that we probably got more presents than kids get on birthdays and christmas.
however, it was a complete lie.

Attention Born in Lurkers
by stuckinamovement indo you feel that something has changed within god's organization?
have you noticed that in the past several years there has been a more authoritarian spirit displayed in the publications and from the platform?
i am in the beginning stages of a fade away and wanted to express my thoughts.

As a JW, what did you do on Christmas Day?
by Magwitch ingrowing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.
it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.
(however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.

I do remember when I was very young a few times that we went to meetings on Christmas Day. I felt like such a freak even as a small child. But most of the time we went to my non-JW grandparents house. It was about the only time I saw my aunts and uncles and cousins on that side of the family as they all lived away. I guess we were pagans too. LOL! We never got anybody presents but my sister and I would get one gift from my grandparents. Thank God for them.

First Christmas
by Lev11233 inthis year, i have decided that i am going to celebrate the christmas season in my own way.
even as a witness growing up, the two-month period of november and december had always been my favorite time of year.
something about all the pretty lights and decorations and the general spirit of goodwill always appealed to me.. i went shopping for a christmas tree the other day, but that's not what this post is about.

We don't decorate until after Thanksgiving Day. We have a big Turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. We have something else for Christmas: ham, pork roast, beef roast etc. We have fires in the fireplace, enjoy hot spiced cider, make lots of Christmas cookies and we watch various Christmas themed movies throughout the season. We also burn "Christmas-scented" candles and play Christmas music.
Have a ton of fun and relax! Do what you and your family enjoy and don't force anything.

Challenges Facing the Watchtower Org
by eric356 inive been thinking about the future of the watchtower organization and the challenges it faces in coming decades.
its difficult to address the issue without allowing personal feelings affect the analysis.
many people seem to think that the society will collapse fairly soon, based mostly on the fact that the person dislikes the leadership or cant understand how others can believe the doctrine.

Planning a Disney World Trip
by garyneal ini'm trying to find the best rates and times to go.
i was considering finding a larger group or even organizing a larger group.
if so, any pointers you'd like to share?.

skeeter1 gave you a lot of great advice. I agree with almost everything he/she said. In my experience the worst time to go to Disney World is around Easter. The most crowded and the longest lines I have ever seen there. I would never, ever go back around Easter even though it is cooler than the summer.

I've been several times. But it's been several years since the last time.
I don't know if you are taking children but if you are not, the best time to go is when most kids are in school. Way back before we had children my husband and I went in mid-November. It was great. No lines. The weather was cool.
We have never stayed in the park. It just always seemed too expensive. But there are a lot of advantages to staying in the park. Check out Blondie's ideas.
I love the idea of renting a house. If we ever go again, I think I would try that.

I'm sorrry to read this, too. I know it's hard. I like OTWO's idea. Is there a JW that she is close to that can arrange her "JW" funeral and you can have a gathering somewhere else for your friends and others that are not JWs.
Do not feel guilty for being honest with your mother. You have to do what is right for you.
